USA Women’s National Team Outfielder Katie Cochran Joins Softball Factory as Special Consultant

Columbia, MD (September 4, 2012) – Softball Factory is pleased to welcome Katie Cochran as a Special Consultant to Softball Factory’s Player Development staff. Cochran is a current outfielder for the USA Women’s National Team. She is a former four-time First Team All-American, having played her collegiate softball at Arizona State University (ASU). During her career at ASU, she broke every offensive career and single-season record. Cochran is also a three-time World Cup Champion.

During her time with Softball Factory, Cochran will serve as a Special Consultant. She will attend select Softball Factory Player Development events and assist with coaching and evaluating 13-18 year-old softball players from across the country. Katie will work to provide guidance to help the girls both on and off the field.

Lea Ann Jarvis, Director of Softball Operations at Softball Factory and former USA National Team player, described Cochran as the “ultimate athlete.”

“She gives back, works hard, and takes the time to respect and honor the history of softball,” said Jarvis. “Katie was a tremendous collegiate player and is a great ambassador for the USA Women’s National Team. While working at our Softball Factory Player Development events she is knowledgeable, personable, and relates to these female athletes as good as any young superstar I’ve seen in the game today.”

Cochran will join Jarvis at several Softball Factory Player Development events throughout the next year. These women will draw from their knowledge and experience to assist youth and high school players in their skill development and training. Cochran’s extensive knowledge and impressive resume makes her an excellent addition to the Softball Factory team.

Lea Ann, I just wanted to let you know how much Misty enjoyed the camp at Oklahoma City. Softball Factory Showcase Game Rules:

- All games will be a controlled (5) batters to the plate per each half inning. If three outs are recorded, bases will be cleared
– In case of hit by pitch (HBP), same hitter stays in box and starts a new “at bat” with a 1-1 count
– All games will played with a 1 out scenario
– Lineups are preset to give each player equal amount of playing time
– First team listed on schedule will be visitor
– Players will be placed in their primary or secondary position in the field
– Umpires will be there to call ball, strike, safe, and out
– Make sure that you have all of your softball equipment
– Cleats for on field and running or turf shoes for the batting cages
– Any dark colored belt or socks are okay

FOR PITCHER ONLY
If you are just a PITCHER, you will throw 1 – 2 innings. Partaking in the 30 yard dash is optional. You are free to leave after you have finished pitching.

FOR PRIMARY POSITION PLAYER ONLY (NOT PITCHER)
If you are a primary fielder only, you will run the 60 yard dash, take part in the defensive showcase, batting practice, and receive a fair and equitable amount of defensive time during the game at your primary position and play your secondary position as needed.

FOR PRIMARY POSITION PLAYER + SECONDARY PITCHER
If you are a primary fielder and secondary pitcher, you will run the 60 yard dash, take part in the defensive showcase, batting practice, and receive a fair and equitable amount of defensive time. Pitch 1 – 2 innings. Please make sure that PITCHING is something you will do at the next level. This is no time to experiment. Please be honest with your abilities

STAFF BIOS

Danielle Bush: Danielle currently the Assistant Director of Softball Operations at the Softball Factory.  She began her collegiate softball career at The Community College of Baltimore County-Dundalk. As a freshman she led her team in RBI’s and over all batting average. She was named captain but then transferred her sophomore year to play at Limestone College. Danielle finished her three years playing Division 2 softball with the Lady Saints and won two Conference Carolina Championships. 

Katie Cochran: Katie is the highly decorated outfielder and current right fielder for the USA Women’s National Softball Team where she has been a part of several championships including the 2011, 2010, and 2009 World Cup Championships.  Katie played her college ball at Arizona State University where she was awarded the 2009 Arizona College Softball Player of the Year and a 2009 PAC-10 Conference Medal.

Ginalee Davis: Coach Davis played her college ball first at Palomar CC and then finished her career at Lubbock Christian University where she helped win a NAIA National Championship while also being named an All-American shortstop.  Currently, she is the Assistant Coach at Palomar CC.

Lea Ann Jarvis: One of the best catchers to ever grace the softball diamond, Lea Ann played her collegiate softball at Louisiana Tech University where she was a two-time First Team All-American. Her number has been retired at Louisiana Tech and she was inducted into their Hall of Fame. She also played professionally and won two World Championships with the USA National Softball Team. In addition, Lea Ann coached at the Division I level for 17 years serving as a Head Coach for both Texas State and most recently New Mexico State.  She currently heads up the Softball Factory as the Director of Softball Operations.
